New York City owners of buildings over 25,000 square feet must provide annual energy and water consumption data by May 1 of each year.

Buildings larger than 50,000 square feet must perform an energy audit and retro-commissioning every ten years. An energy professional will visit the building and evaluate its energy performance. The audit reports how energy equipment functions and what improvements would reduce energy consumption.

Buildings over 25,000 square feet must comply with the Climate Mobilization Act (2019) to reach its goal of reducing carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050. LL97 sets caps on emissions, which increase each year.
